El Cerrito Recycling Center

A living model of net-zero waste, restoration and regeneration

This design-build project transformed a beloved neighborhood resource into a destination built around sustainability. The new Recycling and Environmental Resource Center serves an average of 400 visitors a day with a circular site plan that safely separates operations and visitors’ paths of travel. LEED Platinum certified, the center is a demonstration project for net-zero waste, restoration and regeneration, and community values.

LEED PLATINUM CERTIFIED/ZERO NET ENERGY

“The unexpected twist is the center’s architectural presence – an industrial campus of wood and steel cradled against steep cliffs in a way that shows how even the least glamorous aspects of modern life can be housed in energetic style.”
