Oakland Zoo California Trail

Gondola views and up-close encounters with native California species

Reached by an urban gondola with soaring views, this 8-acre expansion of the Oakland Zoo exhibits represents native California species dating back hundreds of years. Arriving at the 20,146-square-foot Visitor Center, visitors can head to the 5,970-square-foot interpretive building, or “Habitarium,” with exhibits on the different habitats of California. Then they can take the 800-foot-long boardwalk to view the housed animals, ranging from condors, eagles, wolves, grizzly bears, bison, mountain lions, and more!

“There is no view like this that I have ever seen.”
