- Walnut Creek Park Master Plan
“I like buildings that thoughtfully act as an intermediary between the occupants of the building and the surrounding natural environment.”
Jocelyn Lawrence Barish believes that great design should be more than just functional—it should create a friendly dialogue with its surroundings and help people feel connected to the natural world. Her work reflects her deep admiration for architecture that bridges the built environment with the wild beauty beyond it.
An avid hiker, Jocelyn finds endless inspiration in nature, seeking out wild creatures and plants in their natural habitats. Her insatiable curiosity drives her work; she thrives on learning, whether it’s delving into ecological philosophy or the technicalities of waterproofing a foundation. Every conversation with an expert is a chance to expand her perspective and deepen her understanding of the world.
Her years teaching marine biology honed her skills as a problem solver and an engaging public speaker—qualities she brings to every project and client interaction. And if the moment calls for it, Jocelyn isn’t shy about belting out a tune, thanks to the impressive repertoire of lyrics stored in her brain.
Whether she’s navigating a design challenge, a hiking trail, or a sing-along, Jocelyn approaches everything with curiosity, passion, and a knack for finding connections—between people, places, and ideas.
