Oakland Children’s Zoo

Hanging bats, baby goats, and friendly otters in a place for children to learn and play

Part of the Oakland Zoo’s larger revitalization, the Children’s Zoo invites kids to explore animal habitats through immersive, hands-on play. Working with MIG, Noll & Tam designed a series of engaging structures—including the Bat House, Reptile House, Insect Building, and various barns—that support an eclectic animal collection and encourage learning through interaction. Child-sized doors, sculptural elements, and play spaces inspired by animal behaviors help young visitors build empathy and curiosity about the natural world.
