“It’s not just the building, but the whole system – trying to find symbiotic relationships between people, buildings, and our planet is where I see architecture as most valuable.”
Suraj Reddy initially pursued engineering but couldn’t ignore his creative side. Architecture became the perfect blend of his analytical mind and artistic passions. On weekends, you’ll often find him watercoloring serene landscapes or tinkering with his 3D printer, turning ideas into tangible creations. Architecture offers a unique opportunity to shape how the built environment harmonizes with nature, a responsibility he takes to heart.
Suraj’s inspiration comes from a variety of experiences, near and far. Studying in Tokyo was a highlight, where simply wandering the streets became an eye-opening education. “In Tokyo, nothing is the same block to block,” he says, reflecting on the city’s dynamic design. Add to that his time on Cal Poly’s intense volleyball team of architecture students, and Suraj emerged not only well-rounded but adept at balancing collaboration and competition.
His ability to navigate contrasts defines him—buildings and nature, architecture and engineering, Nintendo and watercolors. Whether he’s designing a structure or perfecting a sketch, Suraj approaches everything with precision, creativity, and a sense of balance that carries through all he does.
