“The best and worst part of a project is the beginning, when you’ve got so many ideas you don’t know how to put pen to paper and get the design out!”
Ella was interested in architecture from a young age, thanks in part to her architect dad, and in part to her affinity for both beauty and community. Originally from Tucson, Arizona, she developed her holistic perspective on architecture while attending Cal Poly SLO. She has always been drawn to the good architecture can do in building social trust and inclusion.
Studying abroad in Copenhagen, she loved how Danish culture really appreciates good design. “Social Democracy is a well-oiled machine,” says Ella, citing how well designed the city is.
Ella enjoys strolling through the different neighborhoods of the Bay Area and soaking up the details that give each their own sense of place. Though she’d rather be traveling (especially in Denmark), Ella is enjoying the worldly food offerings of San Francisco and never passes up a good Pad Thai. She’s an avid reader and recommends Michelle Obama’s memoir and Eric Klinenberg’s Palaces for the People—a book that lines right up with the projects she’s working on now with Noll & Tam!
