“THERE’S SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT STARTING A NEW PROJECT, BECAUSE IT’S AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT A NEW PLACE AND ITS CONTEXT AND COMMUNITY.”
Originally from Bogota, Colombia, Daniela moved to Maryland when she was eleven. This move kindled her desire for travel and her interest in learning about new cultures. A core memory for Daniela during her time at UC Berkeley was her travel studio, during which she had the opportunity to stay in the dormitories of the Bauhaus, in Dessau, Germany. Her latest trips outside of school included Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam.
An architect who impacted her career choice is Giancarlo Mazzanti. He is a Colombian architect who often speaks about the importance of play, education, diversity, and the ability to design for people. She follows a similar philosophy and believes design should happen with constant collaboration and teamwork.
Her advice to architects of any age? “Be curious, be creative, push boundaries, ask lots of questions, and, most importantly, enjoy the process.”
