“Distilling every idea into something tangible and straightforward is the greatest challenge in design.”
For Alexis, architecture is a field that merges her desires to create and to advocate for impactful public architecture in communities. She thoroughly believes in the ability of well-designed spaces to change lives, whether they be small or large. Beyond her studies in architecture, she dedicated much of her undergraduate time to architecture studio and working with advocacy groups, experiences she sees as foundational to her career.
Throughout her life, she has undertaken many artistic pursuits from photography and painting to ballet and chamber choir. This creative spirit is manifested in her love for architecture and a deep appreciation of working to make things better. Passionate about ensuring that people have the necessary resources to thrive, she focuses on marginalized groups and amplifying their voices.
Studying journalism taught her how to communicate clearly and have a healthy respect for deadlines. Some of her favorite cities, Cape Town, Tokyo, and Paris have shaped her world but interviewing people in her community, “getting the tea” and spending time with loved ones and friends are her sweet spots.
